Issues while connecting your extender?

Follow these steps to fix the connection issue:

  • Wait for a couple of minutes.

  • If you start your device (computer or laptop), connect the Ethernet cable to the Netgear EX6200 extender, and quickly launch a web browser.

  • Your connected device might need a few minutes to recognize the Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) connection prior to connecting.

  • Ensure that your Ethernet cable is connected to the Netgear WiFi range extender and the computer/ laptop securely.

  • Also, make sure that the LED lights on your range extender are solid green.

  • In case the LED light on your device does not lit, push the on/off button on your range extender. After that, reconnect the Ethernet cable, and relaunch a web browser.

Now, open a web browser from the same computer or laptop. This will redirect you directly to Netgear Genie setup screen.

Note: If you are not redirected automatically to the home page of Netgear Genie, then type mywifiext into the address bar of your opened web browser and enter the default login credentials carefully.

The smart setup will automatically search for available and active WiFi networks and will display the networks in 2.4GHz band safely and securely.

  • Select the available 2.4 GHz WiFi network to extend. Once done, click on ‘continue’.

  • Enter the security settings for your existing 2.4GHz network:

  • In the password/ network key or passphrase field, type the network security key.

  • Once done, click on ‘continue’.

  • After that, select the radio button.

  • Carefully enter the network WEP key next to the radio button and click on ‘continue’.

If Netgear Genie detects any available or active network in the 5GHz band, then it will display it.

  • You are now supposed to select the 5 GHz WiFi network and click on ‘continue’.

  • Carefully type the security settings for your existing 5 GHz networks.

  • Use the extension names (default) or you can even enter new network names for your extender WiFi networks for Netgear WiFi extender setup and click on ‘continue’.

Your range extender will automatically apply the settings:

  • Wait for a few minutes for the range extender to create a new WiFi network. When your WiFi extender is ready, the Netgear genie will summarize the available extender networks automatically.

  • Now, on your computer or laptop, use a WiFi network manager in order to connect to the newly created extender’s WiFi network (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).

  • Select the next option and click on ‘continue’.

Finally, click on ‘finish’ and when a pop-up screen is displayed – to bookmark the URL of your range extender, you have to click on the ‘OK’ option.

  • Now, you can disconnect all the devices that are connected to your range extender physically via Ethernet cable.

  • After that, you can move your Netgear device to your desired location.

  • But make sure that it doesn’t exceed the limit of your main WiFi router.

Fab! Your range extender is now ready to use. Choose the newly created WiFi network and use your main router password to connect safely and securely.

Congratulations! You are using your new extended WiFi network.
